We recommend an extensive shopping- and sightseeing tour through the romantic old town of our neighbouring city, Salzburg. Salzburg has something to offer for everyone. The house where Mozart was born, the Hohensalzburg Fortress towering above the Mozart city. She is the symbol of the city. Salzburg is the oldest city in the region what is now Austria and has a lot of special features:

  • the oldest road tunnel in Austria, the Sigmundtor
  • the biggest historic defences of Central Europe, the Hohensalzburg Fortress
  • the oldest medieval watercourse in Central Europe, the Almkanal
  • the world's oldest kept funicular railway, the Reißzug belonging to the fortress
  • the world's best preserved Renaissance-cascades in Hellbrunn
  • the world's oldest preserved avenue, the Hellbrunner Allee

Stroll through the world-famous Getreidegasse. Visit the house on Getreidegasse Nr. 9 in salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birthplace.

He spent more than half of his short life in Salzburg, that's why the city is also called "Mozart City". "Try a "Einspänner" or a  "Melange" in a cheerful coffee house in Viennese style of enjoy Salzburg from a very unusual perspective and make a boat trip with the "Amadeus Salzburg" panorama boat.  On September 25th 1628 the Salzburg Cathedral was consecrated by the Prince Bishop Paris von Lodron.

The impressive baroque buidling with a length of 101 meters is dedicated to Saint Rupert and Virgil. The transept measures 69 meters, the cathedral can accommodate ca. 10.000 people, the belfry is 81, the dome 71 and the nave 32 meters heigh.  The 8-days consecratory ceremony probably was the biggest historical festival ever celebrated in Salzburg. On November 21st 1747, Mozart's parents got married in the Salzburg Cathedral and Wolfang received the sacrament of baptism here as well.  Right in front of the cathedral, the play of the life and death of the rich man, Hugo von Hofmannsthals "Jedermann", is staged annually during the Salzburg Festival.
